Editor, The Jewish News:

respect and as such ordained by
Jewish law, which is ever mind-
ful of the sanctity with which a
human being is endowed.

One would suppose that it would

be natural that just as the eulogy,
the recital of prayers, and other
performances of the last rites are
done by his co-religionists so the
interment would be undertaken by
the mourners and friends. Unfor-
tunately, this is frequently not the
case. By the time the casket is to
be lowered into the ground, friends
and family have long departed and
it remains to "others" to complete
the final act of respect.
I can well understand how this
custom arose. It was to spare the
survivor's feelings and shield from
them the sight of the finality of
man's end. This concern is certain-
ly laudable. It is nevertheless an
act of disrespect to the memory
of the deceased whom his mourn-
ers leave before completing their
sacred task. I believe that fami-
lies and friends would - appreciate,
if explained, that their presence
and helping in the interment is
not to be insensitive to their feel-
ings, but to show true kindness
(Gemiluth Chesed) to the de-
ceased.
I would like to appeal to the
respective cemetery boards to re-
introduce this venerable Jewish
practice and allow the interment
to take place by those who came
to pay respect and give honor that
is due to a human being.

BONN (JTA) — Nine Dussel-

700,000 Jews at the Treblinka con-

At Frankfurt, where 22 former

months, the prosecution started
its final summations. Chief Prose-1

maximum sentence — life impris-

dants, Hans Starke, Klaus Dyl-
ewski and Perry Broad. He said
that Starke helped send 1,000,000
Jews to the gas ovens and the two
others methodically killed Jews.

Frankly, I hesitate to leave the

status, collective bargaining and

public school teachers have made

Hebrew teachers have.
