a little bit of everything

By Danny Raskin

DINING AT THE Harbor Bar is
a wonderful come-back experience
. . . There is absolutely nothing
like it in the Detroit area . . . lo-
cated directly on the water . . .
making it easily accessible by
boat or by car . . . Folks may
dine on deck or in the air-condi-
tioned dining room • . . It was a
warm, balmy day, last week, when
we drove out to the Harbor Bar
for lunch . . . We sat on deck, re-
laxingly enjoying the panoramic
view of the Detroit River and
watching the yachts and cruisers
go by . . . The onion rings are
"out of this world" . • . big rea-
son being that they are breaded
with a special recipe and dipped
to order instead of b _ eing prepared
ahead of time . . . Harbor Bar is
located on the river at the foot
of Fairview, off East Jefferson
. . • We recommend that you see
for yourself.
NEWEST NITERY on the local
circuit is the beautiful Charade
on Livernois . . . Used to be the
old Dyna Inn . . . Easily ranks
among Detroit's smartest supper
clubs . . . with special emphasis
placed on bringing top talent to
the Motor City.
ANGEL'S TIP is a good after-
dinner drink . • • Care and a steady
hand will make this a success .. .
Use a barspoon held close to the
surface of the drink .. . Pour off
the back of the barspoon so as to
float on each other the following:
. . 1/2 Cordial Glass of Creme de
Cacao, 1/2 Cordial Glass Mara-
schino and 1/2 Cordial Glass Heavy
Cream (30%).
AFTER SEEING IT in New
York, Hy Greenblatt has brought
an entertaining version of dis-
cotheque to his Club Joe Bathey's
on Wyoming . Three cages hang
above the floor, with girls danc-
ing inside to the frenzied music
of a live band • . . This goes on
Wednesday thru Saturday.
HAVE YOU BEEN out to Lofy's

Arbor Lill yet? . . . It's in Plym-
outh, Mich., corner of Lilly Rd.
and Ann Arbor Trail . . . A nice
ride and a rewarding evening . . .
Speciality of the house is Black
Angus beef .. • but the seafood is
delicious, also . . . You'll love the
smartly-styled pleasant atmos-
phere . . . Good food, satisfying
cocktails and fine dancing. .

HOT PASTRAMI

IN NORTH DAKOTA, it is un-
lawful to serve pretzels with beer
.. . It is illegal to sell corn flakes
on Sunday in Columbus, 0.... No
Cleveland peddler of frozen des-
serts may cry his wares in a loud
voice or use nothing than soft
chimes to attract his customers
. .. A Pennsylvania law says that
all restaurants must be equipped
with stretchers and wheel chairs
. . . In Richmond, W• Va., it is
illegal to match coins in public
restaurants to see who pays for
the coffee . . . And listen to this
. . In New Jersey, a person can
be arrested for slurping soup in
a restaurant . . . Hmm! Why Not?

NEW YORK (JTA) — Pianist
Vladimir Horowitz, who retired
from public performances 12 years
ago, returned to Carnegie Hall
to a triumphant "second debut"
before a distinguished audience
that included many of the fore-
most musicians in the world.
In addition to a great ovation,
which lasted more than a half
hour after his recital, he was
praised lavishly by all of the lead-
ing New York music critics for
his artistry and virtuosity. Horo-
witz, born in K i e v, made his
American. debut in the same hall
in 1928.

IF YOU'VE SEEN those busses
with Inner Circle on one side and
Purple Pussycat on the•other . . •
don't worry . . ..you're not seeing
double ! ... Iry iNfleklir has shuttle
service from one to the other ..
Inner Circle in the Crestwood Mo-
Michigan grows virtually all the
tel and Purple Pussycat rank very nation's navy beans-99.6 percent.
high on places to go . . . Detroiters
who haven't been there are miss-
ing something right in their own
SPECIAL ! SPECIAL !
home town • . The two spots are
"musts" for out-of-towners.
