Top Woman Scientist in Israel to Address Engineers in Detroit Prof. Rahl Shalon, vice presi- dent in charge of research at Technion, Israel Institute of Tech- nology, will address a special meeting on "Building Research two books on cement materials and many scientific and technical papers. Polish-born Mrs. Shalon, a graduate of the Technion, received her first degree in 1930 and her degree in civil engineering in 1931. She has been a member of the Technion academic staff for many years, serving on the Israel Council for Higher Education and Israel Council for Research and Development, as well as several other groups. Prof. Shalon recently served as consultant to the Turkish govern- ment on establishment of a build- ing research center and conduct- ed a survey on scientific man- power in that country. She is a member of the executive commit- tee of the International Council for Building Research, Study and Documentation and is past presi- dent of the International Union of Testing and Research Labora- tories for Materials and Struc- tures. This program of centralized purchase and cataloging for books of cer- tain countries is subsidized under Public Law 480 by government- held foreign currencies, and rep- resents a new departure in inter- library cooperation. As the only library in the state participating in the Israel pro- gram, Wayne will become an area resource for Israel's books and periodicals. In accepting the in- vitation to join the program, the university library took a step in line with its decision of about 10 years ago to build a major Judai- ca collection in Michigan. An exhibit of recently received Israeli books and journals will be held at the library from May 23 through June 2.
