Michigan Praised by Dean Rusk for Aid It Gives Aliens

Secretary of State Dean Rusk, in
his address here Monday night, at
Ford Auditorium, urged support
for and adoption by Congress of
the administration's revised im-
migration bill which would aban-
don the national origins quota.
Rusk praised Michigan for aid
it gives to immigrants and had
special commendations for Sena-
tor Philip A. Hart who is co-spon-
soring the pending bill and who
has been among the chief propo-
nents of legislation that would eli-
minate injustices and would re-
establish the American principles
of justice for newcomers.
The Secretary of State pointed
out that the pending measure
would reunite families, make pro-
visions for the admission of skilled
workers from abroad, abandon the
inhumanity in the current law and
would put an end to the embar-
rassments that are caused this
country abroad by the regulations
now in effect.

proved Wednesday at the DAR's
74th annual convention a resolu-
tion urging retention of the exist-
ing United States immigration
law based on national origins
quotas.
The 4,000 delegates, in endorsing
the resolution, -also took a stand

of opposition to an administration
proposal to revise the present law
specifically eliminating the na-
tional origins quotas approach,
which has been widely denounced
by a wide range of American
civic, religious and welfare organ-
izations.

Rockwell May Run
for Governor if
Petitions Okayed

(Direct JTA Teletype Wire

RICHMOND, Va.—George Lin-
coln Rockwell, head of the Amer-
ican Nazi Party, will be qualified
to run as a candidate for governor
Virginia in November elections
411k1 the 255 petitioners on his be-
half are found to be registered
Virginia voters, state authorities
ruled Monday.
Levin Nock Davis, executive sec-
retary of the state board of elec-
tions, said Rockwell would be
qualified subject to the validity
of the names on his petitions. The
support of 250 qualified voters is
required to enter the gubernatorial
race in Virginia.
Rockwell's petitions were signed
by 255 who indicated support of
the Nazi. Rockwell said he would
obtain additional signatories as a
precaution in case •some of the
names already submitted are found
to be unqualified as voters.
•Rockwell filed as an independ-
ent candidate rather than on a
an openly proclaimed Nazi Party
ticket.
Some surprise was expressed in
e state capital that 255 Virgin-
sih
ans were apparently willing to
advocate a candidate who is no-
toriously identified with Nazism
and anti-Semitism in the state.
While an extremist fringe was
known to secretly back the Nazi,
it was not thought that so many
persons would sign their names to
his petition.
