Center Symphony Friends Sponsor
Competition for Young Musicians

The Women's Committee of the
Friends of the Center Symphony,
organized last winter, has estab-
lished an annual competition for
young musicians in Detroit and
suburbs.
Violinists and pianists age 16-21
will be eligible for this year's $200
cash award in each of the two
categories, and both winners will
perform as soloists with the Cen-
ter Symphony Orchestra Nov. 16.
Awards for the competition have
been donated by Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Bean, and the Milton J.
Millers. Mrs. Bean is chairman of
the Women's Committee, and
Miller, president of the Jewish
Center, is chairman of the Friends
of the Center Symphony.
Judges of the violin portion
of the competition will be mem-
bers of the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra, and distinguished
area pianists and teachers will
serve as judges for the piano
category. Auditions will be held
at the Center next June. For
entry blanks, contact the Cen-
ter. Deadline for receiving en-
tries is May 1.
Members of the Women's Com-
mittee besides Mrs. Bean are Mes-
dames Leonard Birndorf, Jack
Greenberg, Richard Chajes, Milton
Miller, Leon Rottenberg, Steven
Victor, Robert Luby, Irwin Mey-
ers, Samuel Stulberg, Theodore
Powers, Jack Mandiberg and Karl
Stillwater.
