BERLIN—The first international
Jewish youth conclave in Germany
since the Hitler era opened here
Monday for five days of discus-
sions about the problems of the
existing Jewish community in Ger-
many. Some 60 youth leaders have
been attending the Inter-European
Conference of Jewish Youth.
Rabbi Gunther Hirschberg of
New York, who was born in Berlin
and who is the only American
rabbi participating in the confer-
ence, will speak at the Sabbath
evening service of the Liberal
Synagogue in Berlin, which the
youth leaders will attend. The con-
ference which has representation
from Britain, Holland, West Ger-
many and other countries was or-
ganized by the Reform World
Union for Progressive Judaism.
The program has included semi-
nars and discussions with German
and Jewish secular authorities and
talks with theologians at the Free
University of Berlin.

William Steiner, winner of
the marathon in the 1935 World
Maccabiah Games, currently works
as a postal employee in New York
City.
