Pioneer Women's Millionaires Party
to Benefit World Jewish Child's Day
Announcing the first phase of
a twofold program on behalf of
World Jewish Child's Day, Mrs.
Milton Weiss. president of Detroit
Council of Pioneer Women, said
the annual Millionaires Party will
be held 8:30 p.m. Saturday, in the
Labor Zionist In-
stitute.
Chairing the
first in a series
of fund - raising
events is Mrs.
Sam Fishman,
vice president of
funds for Detroit
Council.
A variety of
games and booths
will be set up, A-
Mrs. Fishman long with a buf-
fet to be arranged by Hanita Chap-
ter.
Special attraction will be a
grand prize of a round-trip to
Israel or a $500 U.S. Savings
Bond. Other prizes will be award-
ed during the evening.
Active on the arrangements
committee are Mesdames Morris
Mittleman, Julius Silverman,
Norman Kanter, Alfred Schwart-
zenfeld, Jack Wilk and Joseph
Yendick.
World Jewish Child's Day, orig-
inally dedicated to commemorate
the 1,500,000 Jewish children
killed during the Nazi holocaust,
now serves as a means of fur-
thering the activities of Pioneer
Women's child rescue program for
Youth Aliyah. Through this pro-
gram, over 90,000 children have
been brought to Israel from 75
countries.
Pioneer Women, together with
its sister organization Moetzet
Hapoalot (W o r k i n g Women's
Federation) has helped meet spe-
cific needs of Youth Aliyah by
creating training centers for chil-
dren, scholarship funds, fellow-
ships for advanced study, agri-
cultural centers and vocational
centers for thousands in Youth
Aliyah.

Pioneer Women to Honor Glamour, Impressive Festivity Mark
Comic Shelly Berman ORT 85th Anniversary 'Imperial Ball'
In an environment of glamour,
marked by impressive festivity,
more than 400 Detroiters marked
the 85th anniversary of ORT at the
Imperial Jewel Ball of the Michi-
gan groups, held at the Sheraton
Cadillac Hotel Saturday night.
With Dr. William Haber, presi-
dent of American ORT, dean of
the College of Science, Literature
and Art of the University of Michi-
gan, lighting the candle on the
birthday cake, after a very brief
message of greetings, the event
was marked by a "P a r a d e of
Jewels" arranged by Wright Kay
Co., during which a million-dollar
jewel display was shown, with ORT
members displaying the unusual
diamonds.
Mrs. Moritz Kahn, who was the
first president of an ORT chap-
ter in Michigan, organized by her
22 years ago, was signally hon-
ored. Mrs. Kahn celebrated her
80th birthday a month ago.
SHELLEY BERMAN
Shelley Berman, one of the na-
tion's top entertainers, soon to be
seen at the Elmwood Casino, will
be honored at the third annual De-
troit Pioneer Women's Israel Bond
award luncheon, April 29, at Adas
Shalom social hall, it was an-
nounced by Mrs. Milton Weiss,
president of the Detroit Pioneer
Women's Council.
Hanna Aharoni, Israeli singer,
will be guest artist.
Guest speaker will be Israel Con-
sul General Jacob Barmore.
The second annual Israel Bond
prize donated by Mrs. Morris L.
Schaver will be awarded.
