The Detroit Institute of Arts'
Founders Society will present the
last concert of the Young Artists
Series of Leventritt Award Win-
ners, 8:20 p.m. at the Institute
lecture hall.
David Abel, violinist, accom-
panied by Lawrence LaGore, will
be guest artist. Abel, of San
Francisco, made his debut at age
14 with the San Francisco Sym-
phony.
Now in his mid-20s, he has per-
formed in many concerts in the
East and West.
In addition to having been fea-
tured soloist in a national tour of
the Minneapolis Symphony Orches-
tra, Abel has been guest artist with
the orchestras of B o s t o n, Los
Angeles, Milwaukee, Denver, Balti-
more, Chicago and Honolulu.
Abel's instrument is a magnifi-
cent Guarnerius violin, made by
Joseph Guarnerious, known as "del
Gesu" in 1734, during what has
been termed that master crafts-
man's "golden period."
