Gems at Annual Imperial Jewel Ball

A million-dollar jewel collection
will be modeled by members at the
Michigan Region, Women's Ameri-
can ORT, Imperial Jewel Ball 7
p.m. Saturday at the Sheraton-
Cadillac Hotel.
Preceding the showing, parodies
written by Mrs. Murray Mahlin
and Mrs. Warren Cowan will be
sung by Mrs. Leon Lewis. There
will be continuous music by the or-
chestras of Hal Gordon and Pan-
chito. Mrs. Daniel C. Siegel, gen-
eral chairman of the ball, has
chosen her co-chairman, Mrs. Har-
vey Willens, as moderator.
There will be six $100 jewelry
prizes awarded.

The bride is the former Donna
Lynn King, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Albert King of Sorrento Ave.
Her husband is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Sony Abels of Pennington Dr.
The bride's gown was peau de
soie fashioned with elbow-length
sleeves and lace square neckline.
Her flowers were orchids resting
on her confirmation Bible.
Barbara Susan King, the bride's
sister, was maid of honor. Brides-
maids were Mrs. Sidney Abels, Mrs.
Lawrence Levin and Ellen King.
Michael Abels, brother of the
bridegroom, was best man. Ushers
included Sidney AbeLs, Lawrence
Levin and Michael Wolk.
The newlyweds will reside in
Oak Park.

Charles E. Feinberg, art collec-
tor and authority on Walt Whit-
man, will exhibit his rare collec-
tion of Jewish
ceremonial silver
at an oneg shab-
bat tea planned
by the Detroit
Council of Pi-
oneer Women 1
p.m. Saturday at
the Labor Zion-
ist Institute.
Feinberg
The program will mark the open-
ing of the Passover holiday sea-
son, and Feinberg's talk will focus
on "Jewish Art and the Hagadah."
In it, he will relate his travel ex-
periences while adding to this col-
lection, and the historical back-
ground of some of the pieces.
Also participating will be stu-
dents of the Hayim Greenberg
School, who will deliver the sedra
of the week. Singer and guitarist
Charles Berris will perform.
Chairman of the afternoon is
Mrs. Richard B. Kramer, co-chair-
man of education. Mrs. Frances
Shayne is chairman of arrange-
ments, and Mrs. Frank Roth chair-
man of education. Hostesses will
be members of Dimona Chapter,
who will serve refreshments.

Shapero at WSU
Hall Dedication

At the dedication of the Shapero
Hall of Pharmacy at Wayne State
University, last Saturday after-
noon, Governor George Romney
paid honor to Nate S. Shapero, in

whose name the hall was establish-
ed, by declaring:
"Nate Shapero tilled well that
which was given to him. We are
here to dedicate the most recent
product of such tilling."

pharmacy building "an excellent
addition to the growing WSU cam-
pus" and "a badly needed facility
in the development of young men
and women who are so necessary
in the ranks of health."

The Shapero building was
erected at a cost of $1,300,000 at
Ferry and Second. Gifts in Sha-
pero's honor amounting to $700,-
000 were secured and the bal-
ance of the construction fund
came from the state.

There was an audience of 700 at
the dedication. Shapero responded
in an encomia with an address in
which he expressed his joy at hav-
ing his name linked with the WSU
school of pharmacy.

historic Hampstead Synagogue is
planned by Lisa Rosenthal and
Michael Kraft. Miss Rosenthal is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.
Rosenthal of Wellington, N e w
Zealand, and her fiance is the son
of the James Krafts of Robson
Ave. Mr. Kraft, former editor of
the Michigan Daily at the Univer-
sity of Michigan, is stationed in
London with United Press Inter-
national news agency. Miss Rosen-
thal is a graduate of New Zealand's
Victoria University and studied at
L'Universite de Besancon, France.
Following a honeymoon in Ireland,
the couple visit Detroit and other
parts of the United States.

Mr. and Mrs. Morris H. Raskas
of St. Louis, formerly of Detroit,
announced the engagement of their
daughter Sylvia Ann to Edward
David Kalachek, son of Mr. Kala-
chek on St. Louis and the late Mrs.
Kalachek. Miss Raskas is the grand-
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Moses Bachrach of Detroit. Miss
Raskas received her BA degree
from Washington University. Mr.
Kalachek received his bachelor's
degree from Washington Univer-
sity. and PhD in industrial eco-
nomics from Massachusetts Insti-
tute of Technology. He is an asso-
ciate professor of economics at
Washington University. Plans have
been made for a June wedding.
