The heroic deeds of our pioneering airmen
in these AGED aircraft Were RARE indeed.
The culinary achievements of the chef at
Aged & Rare are less spectacular but just
as great—try them.—you'll see.

HARRY BLOOM,
former De-
troiter, now of Chicago, is greatly
noted as a generous philanthropist
. . . Jewish charities proudly ac-
claim Harry for his open purse-
policy in doing so much to help
others less fortunate . . . Who is
Harry Bloom? . . . He's just a
swell, regular guy who made good
. . Back in 1944, Harry, an old-
time Detroiter, started out in the
home town with a whiskey called
Jim Beam . . . Today, it is first in
Michigan . . . and seventh in the
U.S. among all leading brands •. . .
Harry is the kind of fellow who
wants what he wants and gets it
. . For example, while on his 95-
foot cruiser with Ray Lallie, vice-
president of Universal Liquor in
Detroit, he enjoyed a drink called
Mr. and Mrs. T. Bloody Mary .. .
went out and bought the entire
plant on the coast . . . Popular
Eddie Marx (Club Bali, etc.) is
another of the Universal represent-
atives who speak so highly of Har-
ry Bloom that his name has be-
come almost a legend in the liquor
industry.
MIKE MANUCHI on W. 52nd
St. in New York is the famous ren-
dezvous for notables of the sports
world . . . and in general presents
a warm, pleasant atmosphere . .
Featured is American and Italian
food cooked to order.
IN THE STATE of Massachu-
setts, it is against the law to eat
peanuts in church or to use toma-
toes in making clam chowder .. .
A citizen may not carry a lunch
pail on the public streets in River-
side, Calif. . .. and you must not
peel an orange in a hotel room
anywhere in the state .. . Kansas
state law forbids one to serve ice
cream or cherry pie on Sunday
. . . and in Topeka, it is illegal for
a waiter to serve wine in a tea
cup—probably a holdover from
prohibition days.
TO APPRECIATE to the fullest
the bouquet of a wine, fill the
glasses no more than two-thirds
full . . . The glasses must be dry
and absolutely clean.
NEVER SAW so many flowers
at an opening than Abe Chaben
received for his new Uncle Abe's
Tavern, 50 Seward . . . Looked
more like the opening of a flower
show. . . . The place is beautiful
and cozy, with food that's very
good and at reasonable prices . .
The bar is kept busy and Abe
Chaben himself in white outfit
and chef's hat is behind the cafe-
teria-style counter dishing out the
most delicious roast beef we've
had in a long time.
