Dr. Lowenstein, Expert
on Nutrition, Dies at 75

NEW YORK (JTA)—Dr. Gabriel
Lowenstein, a prominent Jewish
restaurant executive and an au-
thority on nutrition, died of a
heart attack last week at age 75.
Born in Lithuania, Dr. Lowen-
stein came to this country in 1905
and, after earning his doctorate in
biochemistry, taught at Columbia
University for several years before
entering the restaurant business.
He had served as a division chair-
man for the Federation of Jewish
Philanthropies and the United
Jewish Appeal.
For several years he wrote a
syndicated newspaper column on
nutrition.
