Foreign Buyers Flock to Israel's Fashion Week

TEL AVIV—Israel's ready-to-
wear fashion industry came of age
this month with the successful
conclusion of the first Israel
Fashion Week at the Sheraton
Hotel in Tel Aviv.
More than 200 buyers from 14
countries, the largest contingent
of 51 being American, stamped
approval on the products of 50
Israeli manufacturers in knit-wear,
leatherwear, raincoats, beachwear,
children's and menswear. It was
the first time a joint showing of
fashion products had ever been
held in Israel for foreign markets.
Some $4,000,000 in orders was re-

ceived during the one-week promo-
tion. Israeli fashion exports for
the year 1964 were $13,500,000.
The target for 1970 is more than
$50,000,000, with textile export
totaling $110,000,000.
Organizations from the United
States represented included Bloom-
ingdale's of New York, Marshall
Field, Chicago, and Detroit's J. L.
Hudson Co.
