• Marguerite Chajes to Present Concert of 'European Contemporary Music' The annual concert of "Euro- pean Contemporary Music" will be presented by Marguerite Kozenn Chajes 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Detroit Institute of Arts lecture hall. Mrs. Chajes, who recently re- turned from Europe, where she was guest professor at the State Academy of Music in Munich, will present compositions by British, German, Czech and Hungarian musicians, most of them for the first time in the United States. Four special guests will be honored: Councilwoman Mary V. Beck, Mrs. Abraham Cooper, patroness of the arts, Mrs. Adelin Venman, president of the Michi- gan Federation of Music Clubs, and Collings George, music critic of the Detroit Free Press. Participating artists will in- clude Emily Austin with the violin; Alice Lungershausen, cambalo; Albert Tipton, flute; Arno Mariotti, obe; Paul Schal- ler, clarinet; Charles Sirard, bassoon, and Robert Bates, piano. A reception will follow at the International Institute. Admission is free. The concert is under the patron- age of the Detroit Federation of • Musicians, the Performing Trust Fund of the Recording Industries, Tuesday Musicale, Detroit Public Library and the International In- stitute. Mrs. Chajes, artistic director, will be commentator. Mrs. Chajes has been invited to deliver her Academy seminar over Bavarian national radio in May. Several of her lectures were on the beginnings of North Ameri- can music. She also has been asked to present a lecture-recital in Munich's Americahouse. Waldman Hotel Season Set Through Labor Day MIAMI BEACH-Sam Waldman, president of the Waldman Family Hotels, announced a tremendous increase in business has permit- ted the Waldman Hotel to remain open until Labor Day. This marks the first time that the kosher hotel has not closed after the winter season. A special program has been planned for the summer with the emphasis on sports and entertainment. Cantor Muni Balaban, formerly of Argentina, will conduct sedorim and synagogue services during the Passover holidays, it also was announced.
