Israel, graduate of the Old Vic
in London and an airpane pilot
during the War for Independence
of his home country, has directed
many stage plays for Chel, Ha-
bima and his own theatre in Tel
Aviv, from Tennessee Williams'
"Street Car Named Desire" to
"Charley's Aunt" and "Pajama
Game." In 1961, he broke into
the cinema by assisting Roger Cor-
man on the French Riviera in the
production of the action-filled "The
Young Racers," not a particularly
good film but one that helped the
young Israeli to learn the funda-
mentals of the craft of movie mak-
ing. In the meantime, Golan di-
rected for Geva Studious in Tel
Aviv a highly successful feature,
"Eldorado" in which Haim Topol,
