The announcement came in an- swer to a published report that the multimillion - dollar Japanese complex had refused to engage in trade relations with Israel. In a letter to the Anti-Defama- tion League of Bnai Brith, K. Iso- mura, president of the Matsushita Corp. of America, said company policy is to "sell to anyone, any- where in the world, regardless of any individual country's boycotting policies." This policy, he asserted, applies to each of Matsushita's 40 separate divisions. Furthermore, Isomura went on to say, Matsushita "will be pleased to negotiate directly with representatives of Israeli pur- chasers." He attributed the boycott report to "misunderstandings which arise from language barri- ers." In regard to one special charge, that Matsushita had refused to sell its dishwashers, he explained, they are not being exported to any country as yet but are manufac- tured only for domestic sale in Japan. Try and Stop Me By 1-1NE BENNETT.CERF • MONTREAL (JTA) — J e w i s h residents of Cote St. Luc were re- ported to have joined in a petition opposing rezoning of a section of the area to permit building of a girl's school by the Lubavitcher community. Sponsors of the project, repre- senting the Lubavitcher movement, have applied to Cote St. Luc offi- cials for rezoning for the projected school. It would provide a dormi- tory for 60 girls and classrooms for 300. The Beth Rivkah school for girls would move to the new prem- ises. The site for the proposed school is in an area currently zoned only for residential buildings. Under the law, the authorities could not ap- prove any rezoning if more than 10 owners of property adjoining a site object. Organizers of the opposition claimed that more than 200 signa- tures have been obtained, most of them Jewish. Those opposed to the projected school contend that the pupils would not be from the area of the school and that the building would not provide any benefit or service to residents of the area. For that reason, they contended, there would be no justification for removing from the Cote St. Luc tax tolls more than $300,000 of potential tax-paying property. Another reason cited was that the children would have to be moved daily by bus to and from their homes to the school and that this would add considerably to the traffic congestion in the area. There are a new Catholic school and a new Jewish Peretz school in the area now.
