Ben Stotzky Succumbs.;,
Ex-Carpenter Was 80

Ben Stotzky died Tuesday at age
80. Mr. Stotzky, 18687 Appoline,
was a member of Bialistoker-Bris-
ker Aid Society, Chaim weizmawl
Society and the Jewish Center.
Born in Russia, he lived in De-
troit 58 years. Mr. Stotzky was a
retired carpenter.
He leaves his wife, Rose• two
sons, Louis and Max; two daugh-
ters, Mrs. Benjamin (Mollie) Zager
and Mrs. Sol (Sarah) Cohen; one
brother in Israel, 10 grandchildren
and 11 great-grandchildren.

Vienna Jews Mourn
President's Passing

VIENNA (JTA) — Memorial
services were held by the Vienna
Jewish community here for the
late Austrian President Adolf
Schaerf, who died here at age 75.
One of the leading fighters for
democracy in Austria, Ad alf
Schaerf was an ardent. fighter
against Nazism, and was arrested
a number of times during the Nazi
occupation of Austria. After World
War IL he fought against neo-
Nazism. He was one of the -fore-
most supporters of demands here
for restitution for victims of
Nazism.

Rabbinical College Dean
Dies in Rome at Age 78

ROME (JTA) — Rabbi Eliyahu
Samuel Artom, one of the out-
standing spiritual leaders of the
Jewish community in this country,
and dean of the Rabbinical Col-
lege in Italy, has died here at
age 78.
The remains were flown to Israel
for burial, after solemn rites in
front of the Great Synagogue here,
where a eulogy was delivered by
Chief Rabbi Elio Toaff. Represen-
tatives of virtually every Jewish
community and organization in
Italy attended the rites, as well as
large numbers of Jews living in
Rome.
