This was made possible by a provision in the new State Constitution which calls for the legislature to elect an auditor general for an eight-year term. Present will be Vice President and Mrs. Hubert Humphrey, in whose honor the vehicle has been given by the Woman's Division of American Red Mogen David for Israel, the support wing of Mogen David Adorn, the Red Cross serv- ice of Israel. The bloodmobile, manufactured by General Motors in accordance with specifications provided by Mogen David Adorn, is one of six such vehicles to be provided by the American Red Mogen David for Israel. The big, $12,000 bloodmobile is a laboratory on wheels, able to take, store and transport blood to any part of Israel. Mogen David Adorn, the count- erpart of the American Red Cross, maintains the only ambulance and blood service in Israel. The presi- dent is Mrs. Vera Weizmann, wife of the first president of Israel, Dr. Chaim Weizmann. • Jewish Immigrant Gives Historic Washington Letter to West Point JERUSALEM (JTA)—Reclama- tion work for a new settlement op- posite the Jordan border, near the Little Triangle, was started Sunday as the first of five such outposts in a Jewish National Fund four- year plan. The JNF plans to invest 120,000,- 000 pounds ($40,000,000) for the pro- ject which will include land re- clamation and expansion of the present Korazim northern area out- post and other development pro- jects there. At the same time, reclamation was underway in the southern de- velopment region here by the JNF on 80,000 dunams (20,000 acres) to be reclaimed in the next four years. As part of the plan 300 miles of roads are to be built and 20,- 000,000 trees planted. (JTA) — A prominent Pennsylvania Jew, who was described as "one of the greatest collectors of Washington manuscripts in the United States," has presented a letter written by Washington from his West Point headquarters in 1779, to the library of the United States Mili- tary Academy. The donor, Sol. Feinstone, of Washington's Crossing, Pa., pre- sented the letter in ceremonies to Gen. James B. Lampert, super- intendent of the academy. Born in Lida, Lithuania, Fein- stone came to the United States in 1902 and worked in a garment shop on Manhattan's Lower East Side. After succeeding in various fields of technology and business, Feinstone devoted his full time to American history and amassed the famous collection of Washing- ton documents. `Jews in Rome' Pamphlet Issued by Italian Govt. ROME (JTA)—A pamphlet "The Jews of Rome," with a photograph of the Great Synagogue on the front page, was published here by the Governmental Pro v in c i al Board for Tourism in Rome. Illustrated with color photo- graphs and with a narrative de- scription of monuments of Jewish interest in this city, the brochure, in Italian, contains a brief history of the Jewish presence in Rome during 22 centuries and the vari- ous events culminating in the tear- ing down of the ghetto gates in 1870 and the Nazi persecutions during the Second World War. A separate section is devoted to Jewish cultural life in Rome and to Jewish holidays. The booklet, which was prepared with the co- operation of the Rome Jewish community, will also be printed in English and other foreign lan- guages in the next few months.
