Synagogues Here, Out-State to Issue
Jewish National Fund Purim Appeal
The Jewish National Fund,
through its religious groups com-
mittee co-chairmen Phillip Stoll-
man, Harry Cohen and David Sil-
ver, again has called upon De-
troit and out-state synagogues to
conduct the traditional Purim Ap-
peal for Shalach Manot to Israel,
by contributing to the planting of
trees and reclaiming of soil in
Israel.
Many rabbis will dedicate their
Saturday morning sermons preced-
ing Purim to the work of- Jewish
National Fund and will make a
special appeal to congregants be-
fore the reading of the Megillah
March 17.
The co-chairmen said the Jewish
National Fund "has the responsi-
bility of reclaiming more and more
land, and since it is now the only
instrument of land development in
all Israel, the Fund now has the
additional burdens placed upon it
to open new and, until now, phy-
sically unapproachable areas bor-
dering on Syria and Jordan, and
especially in making possible the
resettling of barren sections of
Western Galilee. Purim, today,
must not be only a holiday of
celebration, but also a holiday of
`action'—action for the reclama-
tion of land which also reclaim
a people."
