Eban Proposes Summit Cardinal Predicts Council
Parley for Peace Talks to Pass Jewish Statement

NEW YORK (JTA)—A proposal
that the heads of all sovereign
states in the world gather for a
week's super-summit meeting to
re-evaluate the prospects for
peace opened by new technologies
was made here by Abba Eban,
deputy prime minister of Israel.
He made that suggestion at
one of the sessions of intellectual

the principles enunciated by the
late Pope John XXIII in the
encyclical entitled • "Pacem in
Terris." Eban received a standing
ovation from the conference after

GENEVA (JTA) — Augustin
Cardinal Bea, head of the Vatican
Secretariat for the Promotion of
Christian Unity which drafted the
original Ecumenical Council state-
ment on Jews, predicted Monday
that the statement would be rati-
fied by the Council in the future.
Cardinal Bea, who arrived here
Sunday, made the prediction dur-
ing discussion with Chief Rabbi
Alexander Saffran at a reception
given at the Ecumenical Council
here.
