`Deputy' Discussion
Wins Emmy Award

NEW YORK — An hour-long
discussion of "The Deputy" has
won an Emmy award for WABC-
TV.
The program, produced in the
station's "New York, New York"
series, was first heard March 1,
1964, several days after the con-
troversial play by Rolf Hochhuth
had opened in New York. It has
since been repeated several times
on the same program.
Participating in the prize-win-
ning discussion were Rabbi Marc
H. Tannenbaum, director of inter-
religious affairs for the American
Jewish Committee; Dr. Reinhold
Neibuhr, professor emeritus of
ethics at Union Theological Semi-
nary; Msgr. John Oestericher of
Seton Hall University; Gordon
Zahn, sociologist of Loyola Uni-
versity at Chicago; and Emlyn
Williams, who portrayed Pope
Pius XII in the production.
The play criticizes Pius XII on
the ground that he did not con-
demn, vigorously and officially in
the name of the Roman Catholic
Church, the mass execution of
Jews by the Nazis.

Germany May Sign Pact
on Final Reparations
Payments in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM (JTA)—Dr. Felix
Shinner, head of the Israel mis-
sion in Cologne, said here that
the agreement on final reparations
payments by West Germany to
Israel may be signed in Jerusalem
instead of Cologne.
Dr. Shinner said that the sign-
ing, orginally scheduled for Tues-
day, had been postponed. He
added the delay has nothing to
do with Israel's disagreement with
Bonn over the halting of arms
shipments.
