Hebrew Textbook Literature;
New Book Geared to 3rd Grade

Another Hebrew textbook has
been published by the United He-
brew Schools in its "Habayit Hay-
ehudi" series, the newest being
geared to the third grade. The
first in the series was for the
fourth grade.
Explaining the aims of the
school's publications, Albert Ela-
zar, superintendent of the schools,
co-author of the textbook with Dr.
Naphtali Wiesner, educational con-
sultant of the schools, said that
the purpose of this series is to
teach Hebrew by usage. The books
have Jewish content, the termino-
logy used is that which has asso-
ciation with the Jewish American
way of life. These books are for
the teaching of conversational He-
brew through stories in Hebrew.
These stories depict contemporary
Jewish American experiences in
conjunction with experiences in
the home, synagogue and school.
They are illustrated and each story
has exercises based on the text.

ing to the Sabbath is an example
of choice of material geared to
what the child is familiar with.
The story about the family teaches
usage of vocabulary pertaining to
the modern family and ties this in
with the ancient family structure.
These books were made possible
through a grant from the Jewish
Federation and Community Foun-
dation of the United Jewish Char-
ities. The books will be used by
the United Hebrew Schools as
