Rotenberg announces that the guest speaker of the evening will be Rabbi Moses Tendler, Yeshiva University professor who recently received wide recognition for his new cancer drug, "Refuin", from the Hebrew for "cure." 702 u•S Co 4466 In an article appearing in Parade magazine, the drug was described as a "promising control agent" which has "demonstrated effects against ( several types of) cancers . . . It has brought longer life and periods without pain to- persons who might otherwise have died more swiftly and agonizing- ly." In Tendler's words. the drug has "given a great psychological lift" to researchers in the field of chemotherapy." Dr. Tendler launched a vast worldwide soil hunt to find the right organisM for his work. What led to the finding of the correct soil was a trip he took as biblical scholar to the Virgin Islands to assist author Herman Wouk in preparation for the book "This Is My God." Orthodox Rabbis to Help Establish Global Agency on Religious Life (Direct JTA Teletype Wire to The Jewish News) ASBURY PARK, N. J. — Rabbi Israel Miller, president of the Rabbinical Council of America, representing 900 Orthodox rabbis, announced Tuesday the participa- tion of the Rabbinical Council of America in the "formation of an international Orthodox agency to deal with the problems of Jewish religious and social life in all parts of the world." Rabbi Miller delivered the open- ing address at a three-day confer- ence which the Rabbinical Council is holding here. Rabbi Miller pointed out that "the Rabbinical Council has been cooperating with the Conference of European Rabbis in formulat- ing plans for the establishment of this worldwide Orthodox or- ganization. This body will be representative of all Orthodox elements in every part of the world." He told the conference that "the Rabbinical Council has been con- ducting negotiations and meetings with Chief Rabbi Israel Brodie of England, head of the Conference of European Rabbis. These discus- sions have also included the chief rabbis of France, Germany. Hol- land, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland and other countries." Rabbi Miller further states that an organizing charter conference to formalize and finalize the or- ganizational structure of this inter- national body will be held in Lon- don March 7-11. A large delegation of leaders of the Rabbinical Coun- cil in the United States and Canada will participate in these London deliberations. Rabbi Solomon Gaon. chief rabbi of the Sephardic community of Great Britain, addressing the con- ference, appealed to the govern- ment of Spain "to grant legal status to the Jewish religion as a full fledged and recognized body in all phases of public functioning and open worship." He pointed out that a growing number of Moroccan Jews have been emigrating to Spain in recent years. Due to the changing com- plexion of this community result- ing from the Moroccan Jewish im- migration. he said. "it will be essential for these Spanish Jews to be given legal and social recog- nition in all aspects of religious communal living to enable them to expand as a modern, visible spiritual entity. "Without governmental approval and recognition, the Jewish com- munity of Spain would be ham- pered in providing and establish. ing such basic institutions as syna- gogues, religious schools, youth centers, social welfare agencies. and a host of other bodies which are absolutely indispen_able for maintaining a virile Jewish com- munal scheme of activities." The Rabbinical Council ended the conference Wednesday with an appeal to the West German government to extend the statute of limitations for the prosecution of Nazi war criminals beyond May 8. The 500 rabbinical delegates declared in their resolution that there should never be a statute of limitations for those "who have perpetrated such inhuman crimes against 6,000,000 Jews." In another resolution, the Orthodox rabbis appealed to the U.S. Government to intercede with the West German govern- ment for withdrawal of- West German scientists and tech- nicians working on advanced weapons systems as "weapons of destruction against Israeli" Sunday, February 28, 1965, 8 p.m. Beth Abraham Synagogue Car Need Waxing?
