Label Katz, international presi-
dent of Bnai Brith, called on De-
troit Bnai Brith members to help
lead the fight for continuity of the
Jewish people through education.
Katz adressed a group of Bnai
Brith men and women paying hon-
or to Detroiter Mrs. Leonard (Til-
lie) Sims, who ends a two-year
term in March as international
president of Bnai Brith Women.
Katz flew in from New Orleans
for the testimonial, held Monday
night at Temple Beth El.
Enumerating the challenges to
Bnai Brith, as well as to the world
Jewish community, Katz said
young people must be provided
with "an understanding of their
heritage, the values of Judaism and
its contributions to man." But, he
said, adults must engage in edu-
cational programs as well. He
noted Bnai Brith's entensive pro-
gram of adult education as a posi-
tive forge against assimilation.
Other -",challenges facing the
Jewish community, he said, are
West Germany's failure to ex-
tend the statute of limitations
for prosecution of war criminals,
Bonn's refusal to recall missile
scientists at work in Egypt and
the plight of Soviet Jewry "wall-
ed in and compelled to be si-
lent."
On the latter, Katz said, "Bnai
Brith will continue to speak out
until there is an amelioration of
conditions and the reuniting of fam-
ilies."
Katz cited Mrs. Sims for "her
contributions to these commit-
ments."
