The award was made at cere-
monies held on the Mount Carmel,
Haifa. campus of the Technion
where Prof. Estermann occupies
the Lidow Chair in Solid State
Physics. The distinguished scientist
served previously as Scientific Di-
rector of the U.S. Office of Naval
Research in London.
The citation, read at the award
ceremonies by Lt. H. E. Burdick,
Assistant Naval Attache at the
American Embassy in Tel Aviv,
said that "Dr. Esterman has pro-
foundly influenced the Navy's '
scientific goals along their present
successful lines and has contri-
buted widely to the progress made
in the field of physics and chem-
istry through research, education
and administration." The citation
added that he has "vitally in-
fluenced our nation's growing
international responsibilities
through the successful direction of
scientific liaison between European
and American communities."
Dr. R. T. Webber, scientific at-
tache at the United States Embassy
in Israel. presented Dr. Estermann
with the Navy's Certificate of
Appreciation. Ranking members of
the Teehnion's faculty and ad-
ministration attended the cere-
monies.
Prof. Estermann studied and
taught at the University of Ham-
burg. and settled in the United
States in 1933 when he joined the
faculty of Carnegie Institute of
Technology. Subsequently he car-
ried out research at the University
of California in Berkeley before
entering U.S. Navy service. He has
been teaching at the Technion,
Israel's only university of the en-
gineering sciences, for nearly a
year.

Eshkol declared in reply to a ques-
tion in Parliament Tuesday that
Israeli instructors training the
Congolese army were in the Congo
under agreement with the Congo-
lese government at the request of
United Nations Secretary General

$800.000 and the annual operating
is $160,000, according to Prof.
Fausto Pitigliano, president of the

called the hospital project an im-
