MARIE SYRKIN, Brandeis Uni-
versity professor, was elected to

World Zionist Organization at the
Congress which closed in Jerusa-
lem on Jan. 11, it was announced
by Blanche Fine, national presi-
dent of Pioneer Women. Miss Syr-
kin has been associated with
Pioneer Women organization for
many years. She is the daughter of
the late Dr. Nachman Syrkin, a
theoretician of the Labor Zionist
movement, who was closely asso-
ciated with the "architects" of
Israel: David Ben-Gurion, Itzhak
Ben-Zvi, second president, and
others. Miss Syrkin's latest book is
"Golda Meir: Woman with a
Cause."

tion as director of higher educa-
tion services. Dr. Kauffman, 43, is
former assistant to the president
of Brandeis University and dean
of students. In 1960-61 he was exe-
cutive vice president of the Jew-
ish Theological Seminary of Amer-
ica, and later served the U. S.
Peace Corps. His record also shows
service as regional director of the
Anti-Defamation League, Bnai
Brith in 194849 and 1950-52.

named co-chairman of the United
States Maccabiah Games Weight-
lifting Team. The chairman is

national Weightlifting Federation.

Gardner, Oak Park, a 1963 gradu-
ate of Wayne State University, has
contributed $1,250 to the Wayne
State Fund to help establish a
student loan fund and assist the
libraries and other university pro-
grams. Dworkin, who was editor
and publisher of the Daily Press
published during the newspaper
strike, is completing a master's
degree at WSU, and recently was
awarded a teaching fellowship at
the University of Michigan.
