Schechtman Reveals Bloody Trail Left by Mufti,
Arab Leader's Collaboration with Adolf Hitler
If it were only for the ap•
pended text of "The Mufti's Diary
and His Meeting with Hitler," the
expose contained in "The Mufti
and the Fuehrer," by Joseph B.
Schechtman, published by Thomas
Yoseloff, (11 E. 36th, NY 16),
would at once emerge as an im-
portant volume revealing the un-
holy alliance between the arch
enemies of Jewry.
Dr. Schechtman, who was a
member of the Ukranian National
Assembly before he left Russia

In his current work he describes

had engineered the 1921 mas-
sacres, Yet, he testified before
the Royal Commission that came
to probe the 1936 outrages, and
the commission established that
the Mufti and the Higher Arab
Committee were directly res-
ponsible for the troubles.
The Mufti became a political
emigre in Lebanon in 1937, and
the French authorities were great-
ly disturbed. The emigre was
charged with abusing the hospital-
ity that was granted him when his
propaganda became a source of
danger to international peace. But
from Lebanon he continued to
propagate murder and 297 Jews
were killed and 427 wounded in
Palestine in 1938.
The fully documented story re-
corded by Schechtman shows how .
the Mufti soon thereafter began
to operate from Iraq. He was lion-
ized and became the Arab spokes-
man. Irgun Zvai Leumi leaders
sought to capture him, but in the
process the Irgun lost its leader,
David Raziel.
In 1941 the Mufti, after the col-
lapse of the Iraqi revolt, fled to
Teheran. He soon entered the
service of the Axis, and before
very long associated himself close-
ly with Hitler and the Nazis. He
had first gone to Rome for an
Italian interlude in his career with
the Axis, and he made his pil-
grimage to Berlin where he was
welcomed by Hitler and Ribben-
trop. Schechtman "informs his
readers:
"The center of Haj Amin's
almost world-wide net was Ger-

lished in Berlin (and later in

provide interesting data about the
man who more than any other
Arab contributed to the divisive-
ness between Jews and Arabs. I
The manner in which the
Mufti plotted against Jewry, his
premeditated schemes, his rise 1
to leadership in the Moslem
world, are part of the prelimi-
nary steps in the emergence of
a demonic force in. the Middle
East.
Schechtman points out that the
source of the Mufti's hatred was
described by the Arab leader in
an interview with Ladislas Farago.
in the early 1930s. The Mufti then
said:
"The Jews have changed the
life of Palestine in such a way that
it must inevitably lead to the
destruction of our race. We are
not accustomed to this haste and
speed . . . The Jewish girls who
run around in shorts demoralize
our youth by their mere presence."
Farago told him th:..t this was
not unusual in European countries,
that it was in accordance with the
Palestinian climate, and the Mufti
replied:
"It is not a matter of climatic I
conditions, but of tradition. This
is foreign to our tradition .. ."
And so the Mufti became not
only anti-Jewish but also anti-
British, and when the war came
he became an 'ally of the Nazis.
