`Color of Skin' Index Loses Meaning, Beersheba Mayor, German Sientists Urge Israel Ties,
- Author Declares in Book on Negro Balladeers Due at Colleagues' Withdrawal From Egypt
"My Face Is Black" by C. Eric
Lincoln, published by Beacon
Press, is a powerful evaluation of
the status of the Negro in America.
Previously having authored "The
Black Muslims in America," Lin-
coln approaches his subject with
a background of knowledge about
all elements in the Negro commu-
nity.
He pleads for an understanding
of the motivations of the extrem-
ists in his midst, in view of the
conditions which have .brought
about their propaganda and their
appeals.
This request for an understand-
ing of the thinking of the Black
Muslims is linked with an evalua-
tion of the entire color issue.
Lincoln shows that "Malcolm X
is not alone in his belief that a
racial conflagration in this country
and perhaps on a global scale is
the shortest and surest solution to
the problems of this civilization.
The primacy of the white races of
the West over the past 500 years
didnot win friends for them. and
hatred for the white man is not
confined to the black ghettos of
America. This is the price of con-
quest, and all conquering peoples
have paid it. But the point to be
established is that the Negro in
- America, who has received less
consideration and more abuse from
the hands of the American white
man than any other people any-
where in the world, has stood
steadfastly behind him (and. when
permitted, beside him). with a de-
gree of patience and loyalty that
is unique in the annals of time.
Let the white man recognize this
•
now. before it is too late, and learn
to love mercy and do justly."
The conclusion to the Lincoln
thesis is interesting: that there no
longer is meaning to color. He
states:
"The old order of things has in
truth passed away. The old values
and taboos that meant so much be-
fore are worthless in today's world,
or will be soon. Never mind the
color of a man's skin. That is the
least important index of his worth.
If Malcolm X means anything. it is
that America has but a little time
to learn the meaning of color,
which is. that it has no meaning."

ter Gerhard Schroeder and mem-
bers of the foreign committee of
the Bundestag, was published in
"Welt Der Arbeit," the weekly of
the West German trade union
movement.
The letter stressed that all
efforts to atone for the "horrible
mass persecution" of the Jews
committed in the name of the
German people were now endan-
gered.
The letter recalled that in 1952,
the then-Chancellor Konrad Ade-
nauer declared that West Germany
would establish diplomatic rela-
tions with Israel as soon as Israel
was prepared for this. "Whoever
denies Israel those diplomatic rela-
tions questions the very existence
of this state," the scientists and
scholars stressed. "This has been
done until now only by the Arab
countries, Red China and East Ger-
many."
West German trade unions re-
cently launched a cainpaign to col-
lect signatures from their 6,000,000
members for a petition for Bonn-
Jerusalem ties.

cancer patient generally is one
who survives five years after
treatment with no recurrence of
the disease.
