Hit Jewish Schools
for Teaching Religion
CASABLANCA (JTA) — Two
Moroccan newspapers criticized
Jewish schools for offering Jewish
religious instruction in clasSes
where Moslem children are pres-
ent.
Al Alan, organ of the opposition
Istiqlal Party, charged that "rab-
bis" are teaching the Jewish reli-
gion to Jewish children in classes
which include Moslem youngsters.
Another paper, the independent
Izdihar el Maghreb, published simi-
lar criticism and accused the
schools of "making foreign propa-
ganda." The criticism is directed
orimarily at the schools of the Al-
'iance Israelite Universelle, which
'lave accepted Moslem students for
years. Three Jews were arrested
Sunday in Tetuan and charged by
police with "Zionist activities."

Worms explained that these three
steps refer to three different
verses in the Bible where it is
recorded that a leading figure in
Jewish history drew near . to his
goal. They are Abraham (Genesis
18:23), Judah (Genesis 44:18) and
Elijah (I Kings 18:36). More re-
cent writers have expanded upon
this contention and explained that
the three verses explain the role
of the worshiper, in perhaps three
steps. Abraham showed the world
the virtue of praying for others.
Judah showed the world the vir-
tue of accepting responsibility for
others and Elijah showed us how
to pray even for a miracle, hav-
ing faith that a miracle is possible
if the Lord wills it.

Why is the figure of the two
tablets of the 10 command- 41'
ments a popular symbol often
found decorating the ark in the
synagogue?
The ark in the ancient sanctuary
was the place where the two tab- se
lets Of the 10 commandments
were kept. It is through this con-
nection that the temple was as-
sociated with Sinai—the scene of
the Revelation of the Almighty to
his people. Thus the synagogue
carries this emblem reminding us
of this association and ever re-
minding us of the Revelation, by *
