WHERE TO GO in Detroit is
not so much a problem as foLks
would lead themselves and others
to believe . . . in fact, it is some-
what of a falacy . . . Actually,
population-wise, our town ranks
among the nation's top when it
comes to fine eating places, and
for entertainment, both nitery and
otherwise, there is not so much
a lack of it as some would lead
others to believe . . . Many other
cities the size of Detroit or even

a bit larger have a right to be en-
vious of the Motor City.
Rightly so, New York, New Or-
leans, San Francisco, Chicago and
Los Angeles enjoy the esteem of
the gourmets in this country, but
Detroit for many years has had
the reputation of a gastronomic

dessert, which is a fable that was
largely built by out-of-towners . .
Unfortunately. Detroiters have con-
ti ibuted in some measure to the

seemed to have mellowed with age
. . . But, like any fine bottle of
old champagne, he explodes if you
ttip him the wrong way . . . we
'` wouldn't want to be around when
he blows his cork . . . "Where
you from?" Henny asked a would-
be heckler . . . "Brooklyn," was the
reply . . . "Well," said Henny,
st "There's a bus leaving, get under
it." . . . To one group of annoyers,
he ripped, "Don't move! I want to
forget you just the way you are."
. .. To another he knifed, "Some
people bring happiness wherever
they go; you bring it whenever
you go." To a pest, "There's a pair
of shoes with three heels on them."
. . . Henny loves to make his wife
a Youngman accident victim . . .
"My wife," he grains, "has a slight
impediment in her speech. Every
once in a while she stops to
breathe. My wife," he says, "has
her hair cut in a pet shop . . . Her
hair color is changed so often she
has a convertible top . . . And
when she goes to bed she packs
so much mud on her face, I say
'Goodnight, Swamp.' " . . . Henny
says he stayed in one hotel where
the room was so small the mice
were hunchbacked . . . "I had a
room and bath," he bragged, "but
