Section B, Page 10 DETROIT JEWISH NEWS, December 18. 1964 Governor's Tribute to Max M. Fisher By GOVERNOR GEORGE ROMNEY It is a distinct honor for me to be able to join in this special tribute to Max Fisher, a man to whom the title leader can be applied without reservation. Max Fisher exemplifies the qualities of leadership in all aspects of life, building .a record which others would do well to examine and follow. He has been a business leader, gaining many positions of respon- sibility in the petroleum industry. He has been a community leader. giving unstintingly of his time and energies to innumerable projects that will improve his community and meet the needs of his fellow cit- izens. He is a political leader, participating actively as a worker, contributor and leader in the party of his choice. More important to this occasion, he has been a leader of the Jewish Community. It is unnecessary here to elaborate on that record. Suffice it to say that his unselfish contributions to • his faith in Detroit and elsewhere have led to his selection for the most important post nationally, that of General Chairman of the United Jewish Appeal. There is no doubt he will again prove his leadership qualities. For many years I have been personally honored to count Max Fisher among my closest friends. His ad- vice and counsel have been invaluable. His help par- ticularly at critical times and his unwavering devotion have been constant sources of inspiration. So to the Jewish community I say, congratulations on your choice. In honoring Max Fisher you have as- sured yourselves of another successful period in this most worthy endeavor. To Max M. And the people of Israel can rejoice that another able and dedicated leader has come out of the American Jewish community. "I know from my work with you in the past that it will be an honor and a pleasure to work with you in the challenging time that lies ahead." Isidore Sobeloff Acclaims Max Fisher's Leadership By ISIDORE SOBELOFF - Former Executive Vice-President of the Detroit Jewish Welfare Federation The assumption of the highest post in the national United Jewish Appeal is the latest evidence of Max Fisher's role as community leader. In him the organized Jewish community has a spokesman whose interest. vision, labors and generosity embody the finest in the American Jew. Certainly, it is a merited honor to him, but it also is a compliment to the Detroit community by Jews everywhere around the world. We greet our good friend and co- worker, Mr. Max M. Fisher, on his great role in our major philanthropic activities, and we congratulate the United Jewish Appeal on having secured the services of such a dedi- cated leader as its National Chairman. -Welen and Paul Zucherman
