MEXICO CITY
(JTA) — The
His New Book 18th annual Zvi Kessel Awards for Station Purchase
A course for a new era in
, Christian-Jewish relationships and
sweeping proposals to "safeguard"
the future survival of the Amer--
can'Jewish community are offered
by Maurice N. Eisendrath. presi-
dent of the Union of American
Hebrew Congregations. in a volume
, published by McGraw-Hill.
Dr. Eisendrath's b o o k, "Can
Faith Survive?" states that religion
can sustain itself only "through
vigorous social action and through
God-concepts ,relevant to scienti-
fically oriented modern man." He
urges the church and the syna-
gogue to cease their preoccupation
with numbers and institutional
conmetition.
Rabbi Eisendrath calls upon
Judaism and Christianity to "pare
down ancient barriers" to achieve
these goals. and in this direction
proposes "an unambiguous repudi-
ation by the Christian churches of
the h a r g e of deicide leveled
against the Jews: a mutual re-
evalution by Jews and Christians
of the role of Jesus as a Jewish
teacher. and man. and a united
action program by all faiths to cope
with such universal problems as
poverty. the population explosion
and nuclear war."

From its very earliest days the Joint Distribution Committee
stressed reconstruction—to enable destroyed Jewish communities
to rebuild as quickly as possible. Above is a metal-working shop sup-
ported by JD(' in Riga. Latvia, in 1922. Below is a post-World War
U welding class in North Africa. With increased skills the Jewish
youngsters are able to find jobs more easily and to become self-sup-
porting sooner. JDC, which celebrates its 50th anniversary Dec.

PHILADELPHIA (JTA) — T h e
Federal. Communications Commis-
sion was called upon by the Jew-
ish Community Relations Council
of Greater Philadelphia to deny
the petition for a license to Faith
Theological Seminary and to its
president, Rev. Carl McIntire, for
the purchase of Radio Stations
WXUR. AM and FM, in Media, Pa.
In a communication to Williani
Henry, chairman of the FCC, in
Washington, D. C., it was pointed
out by Robert K. Greenfield, JCRC
president, that Rev McIntire, as
the majority stockholder, will con-
trol the programming and other
operations of the radio station if
license is granted. They charged
that Rev McIntire "has shown clear-
ly by his past behavior that he
would not refrain from creating in-
terreligious divisiveness, tensions
and frictions.
