Nostalgia in Myth-Defying 'So What Else Is New?', Golden's Eighth Book When Harry Golden comes here next Thursday, to address the Shaarey Zedek Men's Club, he will be greeted by friends with re- newed encomia on the appearance of another of his volumes. "So What Else Is New?" is the title of Golden's eighth book, and his publishers are G. P. Putnam's Sons (200 Madison, NY 16). Like several of his other books, this one contains lid-bits — brief items about many things, and they he makes this telling statement: "My one ambition was that if I could ever afford it. I would have the barber come to my office and I would have a fellow to drive me because I hate to drive and can never find my way around unless I go to the Post Office and start from there. These I have achieved. And every other year I can visit London and Jerusalem. You will see I do not tremble at the charge df 'dual allegiance.' In fact, 1 am a triple allegiance man—America, England, and Israel. the last two in alphabetical order." a * * Mrs. Golub to Speak on New Golden Book; Author on Program The Men's Club of Shaarey Zedek will present Harry Golden at 8:30 p.m. Thursday in a spe- cially arranged lecture. Like his other works, this one was edited by his son. Harry Golden. Jr.. and the author pays honor to his son in a special note dedicated to him. There are many items of special Jewish interest and the section "The Eleventh Lost Tribe of Is- rael" contains 12 nostalgic Jewish pieces. The first. for example. on "Judaism. Christianity and 'Com- munism, concludes with the asser- tion: "The Judaic-Christian civili- zation exists in time and not in space. and does not depend on the success of the • next Five-Year Plan." And the main piece under the title of the entire section con- cludes with the following: "The Israelis ... aren't troubled by ambivalence; they know what they are. Business- men are simply businessmen in Israel and writers are writers. "There are those who are se- cure in their Jewishness who never worry whether Bernard Baruch goes to shut or not. 'They also do not worry about 'the vanishing American . Jew.' "But let us not minimize the importance of our one ace-in- the-hole — the Christians. The Christians dare not let us van- ish. We are the 'living witnesses.' The Roman Catholic burial serv- ice, . . . into the bosom of Abraham,' would have no mean- ing if there were no Jews, and the Protestants look forward to the Biblican fulfillment: 'Ten• men out of all languages of the nations shall take hold of the hem of him that is a Jew, saying, we will go with you. for we have heard God is with you.' Without us there can be no Second Coming of Jesus. Christ- ians_ are not unmindful of this." In another piece, "Mouthful of Kosher - Sapolio," Golden recalls his boyhood days in Public School 20 in New York where his class- mates were Edward G. Robinson, Jacob Javits, George Gershwin and others of world fame. Golden defies taboos. He writes about immigrants and pioneers, about his numerous personal ex- periences, and in his introduction, as he relates about his early life, .11 ■0 4111111111. •■•■•■ Ibie, J ewry On tile Air This Week's Radio and Television Programs HANUKAH SPECIAL Time: 10:30 p.m. Sunday Station: WJR Feature: "Legacy of Freedom," a musical - dramatic broadcast cele- brating the anniversary of the Mac- cabean victory over the Syrian- Greeks, will feature Rabbi James I.
