OBITUARIES

In horror- stricken disbelief
We watch the tragedy unfold:
We see the grave accept our chief,
We weep for one so young, and bold..
Just yesterday he gathered cheers,
A handsome, vibrant Head of State;
Today he's borne through bitter tears,
The victim of a vicious hate.
His State has shrunk to this-a box-
A casket on a caisson borne.
This senseless act the whole world
shocks;
Oh, God ! He's been untimely torn!!
The tears of all the world will float
His soul across the River Styx,
Where on the shores of that last moat
The martyred of the ages mix.
For thirty days we'll moult our dead.
Half-staff our 'flags with tiatayy hearts:
We'll not forget this day:dr:dread
'Though every morn a neW.'clay starts.
Unfeeling nature, workingfast.
Each dawning sets the stage anew.
And cares no whit who joins our cast
Nor who receives his exit 'cue.
But man is cheered by every birth
Although he knows Death's searing
pain,
For only frames return to ea.rth--
The glories of each life remain:
You men of high estate and 'worth,
Wh o gather here to share our grief.
Must now resolve that peace on earth
shall be your tribute to our chief.
