Benjamin Slomovitz
Dies in New Jersey

Former Detroiter Benjamin
Slomovitz died Monday morn-
ing at his home in Bayonne, N.J.,
at the age of 71.

Funeral services were held
Tuesday afternoon in Jersey
City, N. J. The deceased was
a prominent Bayonne retail mer-
chant for more than 40 years.
Surviving him are his wife, So-
phie; sons, Bernard, -Dr. Harold
Salim and Leo; six grandchildren;
two great-grandchildren; a brother,
Philip; four sisters, Mrs. Fred
Brown, Mrs. Alan Sloan, Mrs. Na-
than Fritz and Mrs. Philip Sills.
A younger brother, Sol, who was
Wayne County deputy treasurer,
died in August 1963.

Mrs. David (Sadie S.) Alter, pub-
lisher of the Baltimore Jewish
Times and former publisher of the
Pittsburgh Jewish Criterion died
Oct. 29.

Sam Levine, head traffic engi-
neer of the Pontiac Division, Michi
gan Highway Department, died
Monday. Mr. Levine, of Mount
Clemens, was 56.
Detroit-born, he was with the de-
partment 24 years.
Among his affiliations were the
Institute of Traffic Enginers, of
which he was past president; Lev-
enberg Lodge, Bnai Brith; District
Board of Governors of Bnai Brith;
Jewish Welfare Board and USO.
He was former state president of
Bnai Brith and also past president
of the Jewish. Community Council
.of Mount Clemens.
He is survived by his wife, Lil-
lian - a son , David; a daughter, Mrs.
Sheldon Sherr; three brothers,
Abraham of Akron, Paul of Granada
Hills, Calif.; and Maurice of South-
field; and two sisters, Mrs. Louis
Davis of Mount Clemens and Bessie
of Los Angeles.

son, Louis of Detroit; two daugh-
ters, Mrs. Lucille Goldstein and
Mrs. Yetta Goodwin of Los An-
