to Hear Noted Speakers

Rabbi Mordecai Kirshblum, presi-
dent of the Religious Zionists of
America, announced that the 1964
convention of the organization will
be held at the Promenade Hotel,
Long Beach, N. Y., Noy. 11-15.
Among the speakers scheduled to
address the convention sessions
are: Israel Minister of Interior
Moshe Haim Shapiro, Rabbi Dr.
Joseph B. SoloveitChik, one of the
foremost Talmudic scholars in the
United States; Rabbi Israel Miller,
president of the Rabbinical Coun-
cil of America.

Southfield presented keys to the,
city to Hillel L. Abrams, president
of Yeshivath Beth Yebudah, and
Daniel A. Laven, chairman of its
building committee, at the corner-
stone laying ceremonies that took
place at the site of Beth Yehu-
dah's new Torah Center at 101/2
Mile Road and Fairfax, Sunday
morning.

Before a throng of some 400.
the mayor welcomed what will be
the largest private school in
Southfield.

An illuminated scroll was in- 1
serted into the cornerstone that ;
was laid at the foundation of the
$350,000 edifice. expected to be
completed in the spring of 1965,
which will house all of the facili-
ties for boys of Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah.
The text of the scroll was read
at the cornerstone ceremonies by
Rabbi Jack Goldman, director of
public relations of the Yeshivah.
The scroll was signed by Hillel
L. Abrams. president of Beth Ye-
hudah, Rabbi Leizer Levin, chair-
man of its Hebrew board of edu-
cation; David J. Cohen, chairman
of the executive committee: Max
Biber, chairman of the board of
directors: Daniel A. Laven, chair-
man of the building committee:
Rabbi I. Stollman, president of
the Council of Orthodox Rabbis,

ward I. Fleischman and his wife.
It bears the inscription. "He who
increases spiritual knowledge
brings wisdom to the world; he
who increases religious education
brings life to mankind."
Others who participated in the
cornerstone laying ceremony were
Rabbi Leib Bakst, head of Yeshi-
voth Beth Yehudah: Rabbi Leizer
Levin, chairman of the education
board and head of the Court of
the Council of Orthodox Rabbis:
Irwin I. Cohn; Hyman Safran,
president of the Jewish Welfare
Federation; Rabbi S. P. Wohl-
gelernter, executive vice-president
of Beth Yehudah: and Rabbi Sam-
uel Stollman, of Windsor. David
J. Cohen. chairman of the execu-
tive committee, was master of
ceremonies.

Study, announces that registra-
tion for adult classes will take
place 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the
synagogue. Classes will be at 8:15
p.m. on successive Tuesdays.
In addition to classes in Elemen-
tary and conversational Hebrew
and pr.yer book, the curriculum
will include a course on "The
Music of the Prayer Book," con
ducted by Cantor Louis Klein.
For this course hitherto unavail-
able tapes and recordings will be
used to illustrate the geographic
influence in the development of
the modern melodies and chants in
the Sabbath, festival, and High
Holy Day prayers.
Seymour Kaplan, director of
youth activities, will conduct a
class on basic concepts in Judaism
for young adults and teens over 16.
A 16-part lecture series by Rabbi
Moses Lehrman on 'The Bible and
Controversial Issues in Jewish

Life," will be held 9:15 p-m-
