Builds Community Center

NEW YORK (JTA) — Ground-
breaking ceremonies were held
here for the new $2,500,000 Jonah
B. Wise Community House of
Central Synagogue. The nine-story
granite structure, scheduled for
completion in 1965, will include
classrooms and an auditorium to
accommodate 500 students of the
temple's religious school as well as
facilities for a wide variety of pro-
grams of Interfaith and Cultural
nature. It will be named for the
late Jonah B. Wise, former spirit-
ual leader of the temple.

Chaplains in Pacific Hold
Religious Retreat in Tokyo

TOKYO (JTA) — A religious
retreat for all Jewish military
chaplains serving with the U.S.
Armed Forces in the Pacific was
held here this week under the di-
rection of Rabbi Aryeh Lev, director
of the National Jewish Welfare
Board Commission on Jewish Chap-
laincy.
Rabbi Lev is conducting the re-
treat, which ends today, at the in-
vitation of the chief of chaplains
of the U.S. Army. During the four-
day sessions, the chaplains from
Japan, Okinawa, Hawaii, Korea and
the Phillipines are participating in
prayer, study and discussion of cur-
rent Jewish issues.
