A Pleasure
a little bit of everything
By Dann y Raskin
30 YEARS AGO in Pennsylvania, for the past two years . . . In this
Dave Dubbs started out in the food 1 short period of time, Dave and
business . . . After leaving service Marty have made it a definite top
in 1945, he came to Detroit and place to go for delicious steaks
has been here ever since . . . still and chicken . . . For another Dubbs
combining good food, good service specialty, try the New Orleans
and reasonable prices . . . With salads . . . you'll be tastefully de-
brother-in-law Marty Potashnik, lighted.
Dave is doing a wonderful job in
FORBIDDEN CITY, exotic spot
the New Orleans Mall, 10 Mile Rd. for Cantonese food, has distinction
and Greenfiel d, where Dubbs of having its owner, Henry Yee,
Country Kitchen has been located the mayor - of Chinatown.
REOPENING NIGHT of the
Flagpole Restaurant and Cocktail
Lounge, on Livernois near the ex-
pressway, was a big success . . .
Lot of guys 'n gals made it a point
to see what Leo Adler's spot looked

(This is the American style and
better!)
TOMMY CHADWICK, bartender
supreme in the Skylight Room at
Darby's, heard a young lothario
confide recently that, "If I only
had enough money to marry her—
I'd bet every cent of it on a terrific
tip I just got today!"
SECRET. TO SUCCESS of Van-
elli's Restaurant on Woodward is
that regardless of what folks ask
for, it is made to order, especially
fish and -.Italian foods . . . The
three Vanelli brothers, Sam, Al
and Joe, opened their first place
on Gratiot and Mack during Pro-
hibition about 35 years ago . . .
After five years, they moved down-
town to the Book Bldg. for 12 more
years and then to their present
site, where 17 years have already
gone by . . . They have a special
banquet room that seats from 35
to 100 ... On Saturdays, the dining
room is opened up and about 200
can be accommodated.
STILL HARD TO beat is the
Wonder Bar on Washington Blvd.
. . . Excellent food and atmosphere
place it among Detroit's finest .. .
And to top it off, very contrary to
some thinking, the prices are quite
reasonable! . . . Sammy Sofferin
and sons Sammy Jr. and Lee do a
bang-up job in pleasing the custo-
mers, and everything on the king-
sized menu is a credit to the fine
reputation built and maintained by
Detroit's wonderful Wonder Bar.
