A crystal ball gazer who dabbles
in Freudian analysis at the same
time is the zany role Buddy Hack-
ett will be playing in his first
musical, 'I Had A Ball," which
Joseph Kipness brought to the
Fisher Theater Monday for four
weeks, on its way to Broadway.
The show continues here through
Nov. 21.
Screwball fun appears to be the
principal ingredient in this sofig-
and-dance show set in New York
City's internationally - famous
pleasure mecca, Coney Island.
Anything can happen, as the news
bulletins attest, in this bizarre
Baghdad-by-the-Sea, and the com-
plications cooked up by Jerome
Chodorov for "I Had A Ball" are
reported to be ingenious. The
author has written such previous
hit romps as "My Sister Eileen,"
"Junior Miss" and "Wonderful
Town."
Hackett, whose inspired lunacy
as a highlight of many Jack Paar
TV shows and the current film,

Evie Orbach, director of the
Jewish Center's production of
"The Tenth Man," has appeared
on national television as well as

of Cantor Harold Orbach of Tem-
ple Israel. She is the mother of
four children.
She has directed "Death of a
Salesman," "A Streetcar Named
Desire," "The Last Angry Man,"
"The World of Sholem Aleichem"
and 'Twelve Angry Men," in addi-
tion to several operas.
"The Tenth Man" will be pres-
ented at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 7, 8, 11, 12,
14 and 15 at the Center.

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel
Treasury sources reported that the
rise of Israel's international trade
deficit and the impact of mounting
inflationary pressures were dis-
cussed at a special meeting of the
ministerial economic committee.
The importance of the talks was
emphasized by the fact that Prime
Minister Levi Eshkol presided over
the meeting of the committee. Usu-
ally such meetings are under the
chairmanship of the finance minis-
ter. The committee continued to
discuss measures to cut consumer'
spending, which is currently well
above the 3 per cent maximum in-
crease laid down by Israel's eco-
nomic planners.
The cabinet members also dis-
cussed the labor shortage caused
by the current high level of eco-
nomic activity. Finance Minister
Pinhas Sapir was reported urging
his fellow cabinet ministers to
show more restraint in their bud-
get proposals for the coming fis-
cal year.
