Betty Rollin has gathered the evidence and the book. pub- lished by Doubleday, is hilarious throughout. With special art by Sergio Ara- genes and supplementary evidence by Jean Kerr of the New Yorker, Oscar Wilde, Ellen Williamson, Og- den Nash and many others, this well illustrated. interestingly com- piled. properly annotated book is just filled with humor. Everybody is represented. Every mother and her child is involved here, and there is a special section devoted to Jewish mothers. The latter starts with fact: Jewish mothers want their sons to be doc- tors. Well. that was a fact. But what's more important is the follow-up fact: Jewish mothers want their daughters to marry. And so proceeds the evidence — with details about Jewish mothers who want their children to eat, and, on this score, we have the noteworthy selection from Sara Kasdan's "Love and Knishes." And we also have a role by a psychiatrist. We have proof — so it fits into the picture — that Jew- ish mothers want the best for their children. The humor in idiom may be re- sented, but in its entirety this sec- tion is certainly very entertaining. George Jessel plays a part here. in the item showing that Jewish mothers translate things into their own idiorti. 8 ngagetnents Dr4nd Mrs. Frank Seinsheimer, of Cincinnati, announce the engage- ment of their daughter, Jean, to Paul F.
