Syrians Fire at Israel;
UN Confirms Reports

TEL AVIV (JTA)—Syrian gun-
ners fired on Israeli farm workers
east of Lake Tiberias for the
second day in a row, forcing
Israeli forces in the area to re-
turn the fire, so that a tractor
driver could take cover. There
were no Israeli casualties.
The Syrians began shooting with
small arms Oct. 7 at a tractor cul-
tivating a field regularly farmed by
the Israelis in the Haon area. On
Oct. 8, using artillery, the Syrians
set a number of field fires which
were put out by a local fire bri-
gade. Children of the Haon and Tel
Katzir settlements were sent to
shelters for several hours during
each incident. The first tractor tar-
get was hit by some of the 30
Syrian shells. An armored Israeli
tractor was put into the field, and
the Syrians resumed shooting. At
this point the fire was returned.
so that the driver could get out of
range.
