Russian Jew's Plea With His Government in Israel's

,Behalf Brought for Publication by Prominent Detroiter

A prominent Detroit Jewish

woman, a leader in an important
profession, who feels impelled to
remain unidentified, has submitted
to The Jewish News a deeply mov -
ing appeal written by a Russian
Jew, expressing concern over his
government's Jewish attitudes and
pleading in defense of a tolerant
attitude toward Israel.

The woman who brought the
, message to The Jewish News toured
\ in several countries behind the
Iron Curtain and spoke to many
Jews on her visits in Russia, Ro -
mania, Poland and other sectors.

While in Kiev, she attended Yom

Kippur services and spoke to many
Jews. She also met with non - Jews,
and there was a general agree-
ment that anti-Semitism is felt in
Russia as an inheritance from the

Czarist times.

While in Kiev, she was ap-
proached by a comparatively young
man who told her that he would
have taught his children Yiddish
and Hebrew but was deprived of
the knowledge of the Jewish media
of expression himself. He kept fol-
lowing the Detroit tourist and
finally approached her confiden-
tially to ask her whether she would
take, for publication in this count-
ry, a statement he had written.

France Frenchmen should live, in
Italy—Italians; and in Australia—

Briefly said: If Israel has a
Jewish government, Jews should
live there. Not one respectful goy-
ernment, if it practices genuine
freedom, has a right to forbid
people of the Jewish nation to emi-
grate to their homeland (the writ-
er uses the word Republic).
Take the Armenians — they were

Many similar examples may be
