South African Jews Slam. Anti-Semitic Smears

BUENOS AIRES •.rrA) — The
75th anniversary of the arrival in
Argentina of the firs t Jewish
pioneers in 1889, and the creation
of the first Jewish agricultural
colony in Mosesville, Sante Fe
Province, was observed in cere-
monies there.
Gov. Aldo Tessio of the province
and Agriculture Minister Walter
Kugler lauded the valor and per-
severance of the Jewish pioneers,
and hailed the assistance given
them by Baron Maurice de Hirsch.
A statue of the baron was un-
veiled and kaddish was recited over
the graves of the first 60 children
among the pioneers who died in the
first year because of illness and
privation. Mosesville today is a
wealthy and progressive settlement.
Most newspapers in Argentina
featured reports of the Mosesville
celebration and stressed the con-
tributions made by the Jewish peo-
ple to the progress of this country.

Synagogue discovered the ancient Sefer Torah for the. Friedmans
after years of searching. The scrolls, which were made in the Middle
East hundreds of years ago, are in excellent condition. The quality
of the parchment is unusually good, and the script is exceptionally
beautiful. A special breast plate in the shape of a tree was made for

the Torah. The Torah often has been likened to the tree of life from
which all good and beautiful things grow.

In another FAO report, survey-
ing the world's food and agricul-
tural situation for 1964, the
agency found that Israel's new
five-year farm plan for 1965-1969
provides for an overall 40 perceht
boost in farm output. The goals
are a 60 percent increase in citrus
fruit, 35 percent increase in vege-
tables, 30 percent in fruit and
milk, and 25 percent in eggs.
Israeli projects include expecta-
tions of a substantial increase in
exports, particularly to the six
nations of the European Common
Market.
