HARTFORD, Conn. (JTA) — An
amendment to the State Constitu-
tion permitting the use of ab-
sentee ballots when election days
fall on a religious holiday will be
put before Connecticut voters on
Election Day, Nov. 3, climaxing a
drive by Jewish leaders throughout
the state who had called for the
change after a number of local
elections had been held on Jewish
holidays.
Twice within the past five years,
a number of Jewish voters in Con-
necticut were disenfranchised when
city elections were held on Jewish
holidays. The proposed amendment
would • permit voting by absentee
ballot on Rosh Hashanah, Yom
Kippur, S u k k o t, Passover and
Shavuot.
