Mrs. Arthur J. • Hass, 1350 Strathcona, president of the Michigan
Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, will participate in the biennial meet-
ing of the District Presidents Council of the National Federation of
Temple Sisterhoods at NFTS headquarters in New York, Oct. 11 and 12.
The Michigan Federation, which is NFTS District 11, includes the Sister-
hoods of Reform Jewish Congregations in Michigan and Windsor.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Schecket of Sherman Ave., Oak Park, will leave
for Atlanta, Ga. to attend the wedding Sunday of their daughter Lois
to Murray Asher.
Former Detroiters Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Leeds, now living in Dallas,
Tex., will have as their house guest Robert C. W. Ettinger, author of
"The Prospect of Immortality," during the weekend of Oct. 23. Ettinger
will be featured on radio and television programs in Dallas and Fort
Worth and will speak at a "Meet the Authors" program in Fort Worth,
Oct. 25.
Dr. and Mrs. Reuben K. Kaznelson of Israel were elected honorary
members of the Hordes FamilY Club, and Mrs. Edward Wishnetsky was
.named president at the 10th anniversary celebration of the club. Mrs.
Kaznelson is a former member of the Israel Knesset.
Among local delegates to the biennial convention of the Great
Lakes Region Union of American Hebrew Congregations, this week-
end in Chicago, will be Temple Beth El members Stanley J. Karbel and
Mrs. Sidney Miller. Mr. Karbel, president of the temple, will chair a
workshop on worship; and Irving I. Katz, executive secretary of Te'mple
Beth El, will speak on "Board Members Are Made, Not Born." Sessions
will be at the Pick-Congress Hotel.
Detroiters participating in the United Jewish Appeal's 10th official
study mission to Europe and Israel include Max M. Fisher, associate
general chairman of the UJA and chairman of the executive com-
mittee of the Detroit Jewish . Welfare Federation; Mrs. Sidney J. Allen,
Dr. and Mrs. I. Jerome Hauser, Mr. and Mrs. Abe Shiffman, Mr. and
Mrs. Max Stollman and Paul Zuckerman, member of the UJA National
Campaign Cabinet and vice president of the Detroit Jewish Welfare
Federation. They are among 140 of the nation's key Jewish leaders
to be present when the mission opens Sunday in Israel.
Dr. and Mrs. Robert Jaffe and family. • formerly of Detroit have
returned from a year in Sweden and Europe and are now living in
Ann Arbor, where Dr. Jaffe is doing research at the University, of
Michigan.

page pamphlet entitled "What Is
Extremism? Ten Questions and
Answers," published by, the Amer-
ican Jewish Committee for dis- •
tribution by democratic, anti-ex-
tremist groups throughout the
country.
The purpose of the pamphlet,
according to the introduction, is
to circulate the truth about ex-
remists who cry that "America
must be snatched from the grip
of conspiracy.
"Under the banner of breaking
a. conspiracy," the introduction
continues, "the extremists of the
right have licensed themselves to
break the law. They intimidate by
slander, terrorize by rumor, dis-
turb the peace and incite violence.

Scholarship semifinalists. They
were chosen on the bosis of com-
prehensive, competitive examina-
tions given last spring and
represent the top two-thirds of one
per cent of all high school seniors
