Nazi Karl Wolff
Gets 15-Year Term
MUNICH—Karl Wolff, the high-
est ranking former Nazi to be tried
in West Germany, was sentenced
Wednesday to 15 years at hard
labor on conviction of having or-
ganized the deportation of 300,000
Jews from occupied Poland to the
Treblinka death camp.
Wolff, a former SS general who
was adjutant to Gestapo Chief
Heinrich Himmler, was on trial for
10 weeks. More than 70 witnesses
were heard. Whether he will ap-
peal the sentence was not immedi-
ately indicated.
The court placed a special guard
on Wolff's prison because Munich
officials received an anonymous
telephone warning that an unspeci-
fied group would try to free the
former SS officer from prison. He
has been in jail since January 1962.

HOLLYWOOD (JTA) — Harpo
Marx, the silent member of the
Marx Brothers, died at Mount Sinai
Hospital here Monday night after
undergoing heart surgery. He was
70.
Although in his professional role
Marx never spoke, he often ap-
peared as a speaker at pro-Israel
functions throughout the country.
His long concern for Israel and the
welfare of the Jews was expressed
most recently when, in the spring
of 1963, he visited Israel to take
part in the opening ceremonies of
a new hotel in Haifa.
