Dr. Feitelson countries, Dr.
Feitelson's new method is a com-
bination of the controversial "look-
_ say" method of recognizing whole
words instead of spelling them out,
and the "phonic" method, by which
the child masters the structures of
*Words step by step.
Dr. Feitelson will spend the year
as a visiting scholar at the Univer-
sity of Chicago, where she hopes to
learn American research tech-
niques and to compare notes with
some of the American pioneers on
the education of underprivileged
children. Dr. Feitelson has won the
Israel Prize for educational re-
search.

Don Frohman Chorus
Begins Season's Program

The Don Frohman Chorus will
start rehearsals for the coming
season 8-10 p.m. Tuesday in the
NIumford High School auditorium.
New singers may join the chorus
until Oct. 10. To apply call direc-

At a recent garden party, Mr.
and Mrs. Sam Gechter of Glaston-
bury Rd. announced the engage-
ment of their daughter Elizabeth
Ann to Howard Lynn Droz, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Droz, of Lahser
Rd.
The bride-elect attends Wayne
State University College of Educa-
tion, and her fiance is a senior at
Lawrence Institute of Technology.
An August wedding is planned.

Bazaar to Help
Retarded Youths
at Lapeer School

Mentally retarded children and
adults of the Lapeer State Home
and Training School will benefit
from proceeds raised at a bazaar
sponsored by the Lapeer Parents
Association, Inc.
The 15th annual fall festival
bazaar will be held Oct. 3, at the
Orthogenic School, 10235 W. Seven
Mile, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
On sale and on display will be
booths of dolls, aprons, a farmers
market, grab bag games, gifts. chil-
drens clothes, parcel post, jewelry,
linens and baby articles.
A lunch and full course dinner
will be served at a nominal cost.
Proceeds from the bazaar will be
used for education, recreation and
research programs for the mentally
retarded patients at Lapeer State
Home. There are approximately
4,000 patients residing at Lapeer
the largest hospital in Michigan
for mentally retardates. There are
17 babies born every day in Michi-
gan who will be retarded to some
degree and an intensive research
program must be developed. A goal
of $15,000 has been set for this
year.
There will be free admission and
,free parking. For information call

Reach Golden Year
Honor Roll Efforts

Plans are under way for the cul-
mination of Detroit Chapter Ha-
dassah's honor roll campaign, it
was announced by Mrs. Samuel J.
Rhodes, fund-raising vice president.
A Continental Ball will be held
8 p.m. Nov. 14 at Shaarey Zedek
Synagogue. All contributors of a
minimum of $11 or more will be
invited. Music for dancing, enter-
tainment and supper will be fea-
tured, under the chairmanship of
Mrs. David Miro and co-chairmen
Mesdames Alfred Meyers and Isa-
- dore Winkelman.
Besides Mesdames Ben Mossman
and Hy Safran, who are in charge
of reservations, ball committee
chairmen include Mesdames Nate'
Schlafer, Nathan Milstein, Harold
Hoffman, A. C. Hamburger, Robert
Schiff, Peter Brown, Morris Adler,
Peter Martin, Tubie Resnik, Harold
Victor, Harvey Snider. Marvin
Fleischman, George Seyburn, Rob-
ert Drews, Jack Perlman, Sydney
Berke,- Sidney Levison, Davis Ben-
son, Irving Blumberg, Charles
Lapides, Alfred Rosen, Robert T.
Roberts and Sam Kovan.
In addition to the fund-raising
honor roll campaign, in which
all chapters throughout the coun-
try are being asked to increase
their quotas, Hadassah is engag-
ing in its annual membership
drive. Detroit Chapter hopes to
enroll at least 500 new members,
according to Mrs. Ivan Meisner,
membership vice president.
The campaign will close Jan. 12
at Temple Israel, with an Israeli
Fashion Show of designs by the
students of the Alice Seligsberg
Vocational School, Jerusalem. Re-
quirement for admission is a new
member.



Regional Hadassah to Host
Fashion Show in Flint

1lichigan Region of Hadassah
will hold its presentation of Myrtle
Wreath Awards and an Israeli
Fashion Show 1 p.m. Sept. 30 at
the I.A.M. Annex in Flint. Mrs.
David J. Schachter of Detroit is
regional president.
Among her assistants are Mrs.
Sidney Hartman of Flint. regional
membership chairman; Mrs. Reubin
Bienstock, Southfield area vice
president; and Mrs. Harry Living-
ston, Flint. promotion chairman.
