to Run in Manitoba for
Seat Re Left in Conflict

WINNIPEG (JTA) — Maintland
Steinkopf, the first Jewish mem-
ber of a Manitoba provincial cabi-
net, announced he would enter a
by-election for the Manitoba leg-
islative seat he resigned three
weeks ago.
He resigned as minister of pub-
lic utilities in the Manitoba Cabi-
net, as well as from the legislature,
in'a controversy stemming from his
role as an unpaid agent for the
government in land purchases for a
centennial arts, project in Winni
peg-
- He added he would stand for the
nomination in a Winnipeg riding
for the Progressive Conservative
Party and that he would produce
all his files on the land purchases
during the campaign. The election
will be held Sept. 30.

pealed to Jewish voters, in an elec-
tion campaign statement, to work
for the elimination of prejudice
