Dr. J. Lee Kavanau, associate professor of zoology at the University
of California, Los Angeles, son of Mr. and Mr. S. L. Kavanau, forMer
Detroiters, now residing in Los Angeles, will be the guest of his
uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Trepeck, 8206 Huntington Rd.,
Huntington Woods, Sept. 5, en route home from Brown UniverSity,
Providence, R.I., where he delivered an address at the Inter-
national Congress of Cell Biology. Dr. Kavanau also spoke at the
Gordon Research Conference at Tilton, N.H., on "The Structure
and Function of Biological Membrane." He is the. author of Several
books. Dr. Kavanau received his BS degree in physics and mathematics
from the University of Michigan in 1943 and his PhD at the University
of California at Berkeley in 1952. He has done research in chemical
embrovology at the Wenner Gren Institute in Stockholm, Stazione
Zoologica in Naples and the Rockefeller Institute in New York.

Yehuda Hellman. executive director of the Conference of Presi-
dents of Major American Jewish Organizations, will be the guest
speaker at the Adas Shalom leadership reception to be hosted by Mr.
and Mrs. Jules Kraft, at their home, 3104 W. Outer Drive, 8:30 p.m.
Thursday. The affair is on behalf of Israel Bonds. Hellman is also
secretary general of the World Conference of Jewish Organizations.
Groups such as the World Jewish Congress and the International
Council of Bnai Brith, as well as major Jewish organizations in five
continents, coordinate their fight for Jewish rights through the CO-JO.
He has served as foreign correspondent in London, Paris, Beirut
and Damascus and was chief of the Paris Bureau of the Jewish
Telegraphic Agency. He lived in the Arab states for several years.

The 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. David Schafer
of Flint was observed at a buffet ' dinner given by their son and
daughter-in-law, the Wayne Schafers, in their Flint home. Out-of-town
guests included Joseph Moly of Prague, the Marcello Wilks of Buenos
Aires. the Arthur Loewys and daughter Harriet of Silver Spring. Md.,
Mrs. Helen Gruber and children of: Canoga Park, Calif.. Mrs. Anne
Heidenrich of Miami Beach and the Melvin Mosses of Saginaw.
Detroiters present were Messrs. and Mesdames Sam Schoichet, Sherwin
Biesman, Jerry Armour and Arnold Schafer, Dr. and Mrs. Murry
Bergman. Dr. and Mrs. Milton Superstein and Mrs. Esther Fivenson.
