NEW YORK—Those who think the Yiddish theater is tolling its death knell have another think coming if plans by the New York Hebrew Actors Union are any in- dication. The union intends to.-)erect a performing arts center in New York next year, it was reported by president Seymour Rexsite. The center would contain a theater for the presentation of Yiddish clas- sics. a museum for stage memor- abilia and two schools. one for act- ing and one for musical composi- tion. A 5500.000 campaign will begin soon. Rexsite said. Three playhouses will be avail- able to the union this year, one fewer than last year. The union is subsidizing the Jewish Folk Theater troup to spread employ- ment among its members. Sholom Secunda's musical "Good Luck" is one of the works to be presented this season. In memory of 320 Yiddish ac- tors killed by the Nazis, the He- brew Actors Union will publish a book "Kedoishim" in December, with Yiddish text by Zalman Zil- berzweig.
