DeVelopment of the devices
ended a long-standing dispute be-
tween the ASPCA and Jewish or-

that Jewish ritual slaughter was

HAPPY

ARAD, Israel—The discovery of
six inscribed fragments of pottery
dating to the end of the First
Temple period have solved an old
dispute.
The fragments, written in an-
cient Hebrew. script, are addressed
to "Elyashiv." believed to be the
last cOmmander of the Arad cita-
del. located in the Negev.
Dr. Yohanan • Aharoni, co-di-
rector of the excavations, said evi-
dence was found that the Israelite
sanctuary was in use from the time
of Solomon. According to the de-
sign' of the Jerusalem temple, it
was built in three sections, and
the •remains of its two cblumns
were found to be symbolic pillars,
not supports for the roof.
The find vindicated' the account
in . Chronicles that the columns
stood outside -the inner chamber
of the Temple. Some scholars had
insisted that the . pillars stood out-
side the Temple itself.

time it has thrilled countless millions.
This little life-giving stream with
its source in the snow-capped Hermons,
winds its way to the Lake of Galilee.
And then, out again as it heads for the
"Salt" or 'Dead Sea."

.

The cold, sparkling waters of the Hermons
reflect "Meribah" as they flow onward to
finally be seemingly lost in the salt-brine.

We, in Michigan, accept fresh, clear
water as endless—but, in the Near East
it is the symbol of life.

Thousands of years have passed by, then
the so-called "Dead Sea" turns out to be the
source of chemical deposits, th9t blended with
the water and electrons causes the desert
to bloom. Out of travail birth has come.
